Bernero first to accept WLNS-TV 6 and WILX-TV 10 debate invitations

(Lansing) – State Senator Virg Bernero today became the first candidate to accept two invitations to debate among Lansing’s mayoral candidates. The invitations were extended by WLNS-TV 6 and WILX-TV 10. The stations will host and televise their respective debates. Bernero agreed to the debate immediately and was the first candidate to respond to accept the invitation.

“The more information voters have, the better democracy functions,” Bernero said Thursday. “Lansing residents must have an opportunity to compare each candidate side by side and hear each of us describe his or her vision for Lansing. Community forums are great, but we owe it to Lansing’s voters to engage in debates that are televised city-wide.”

WLNS-TV 6 said their debate would be held the week of July 18th. The debate on WILX-TV 10 is in conjunction with the Lansing State Journal and WKAR and will be held on Thursday, July 28th.

Last month, Bernero issued a challenge to the other three candidates in Lansing’s race for mayor. Bernero challenged his opponents to meet with him in four televised debates before the primary. The incumbent, Mayor Tony Benavides, has yet to accept this challenge.
