Making Lansing the best it can be requires mutual respect, tolerance and unity. That's what I'll bring back to the mayor's office.
- Virg Bernero
As Lansing Mayor, Virg brought people together from all walks of life to celebrate our community's rich diversity and multicultural heritage. He appointed the most diverse mayoral cabinet in Lansing history and worked hard every day to make our city more inclusive and to eliminate barriers to economic success for all Lansing residents.
Virg worked with President Barack Obama and a coalition of local leaders to launch Lansing's My Brother's Keeper initiative and joined the Kellogg Foundation's Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation initiative, a grassroots effort to make Lansing a more inclusive and equitable city for all its citizens.
Virg joined with East Lansing Mayor Vic Loomis to create the region’s first Ramadan Unity Dinner, an annual event to celebrate the Muslim traditions of Ramadan and encourage mutual understanding, tolerance and respect for others.
And when it comes to getting things right, nothing could be more important than transparency and accountability in policing. Mayor Bernero put body cameras on Lansing cops early on, expanded Community Policing and accomplished 95 percent of President Obama’s 21st Century Police Reforms. Transparency is a must when lives hang in the balance.
Virg's values are the reason he always does the right thing -- he respects all people and works to bring community members together to move the city forward and leave no one behind.
If you believe Lansing’s best days are NOT behind us; if you believe we must continue to move boldly forward together, then please join our effort.
Virg Bernero is the experienced, competent and compassionate leader we need now to unite Lansing and help move us forward once again.
